Crystal palace 0-2 Arsenal in premier League match GW1.
After a strong first 45 minutes, we were forced to withstand a lot of Palace pressure after the break, and Aaron Ramsdale is to thank for keeping us ahead after making a few outstanding saves to deny Odsonne Edouard and Eberechi Eze. The Brazilian headed home after 19 minutes following a well-executed corner routine.
However, our defence stood strong, and six minutes from time, Guehi's deflection of Bukayo Saka's cross into the goal secured victory, giving Mikel Arteta his 50th Premier League triumph.
We grabbed control of the game right from the start, which gave our travelling supporters enough to cheer about for the first 45 minutes. Gabriel Jesus almost scored his team's first goal after collecting the ball on the edge of the box, nutmegging one defender and dribbling around another. However, Guehi blocked Jesus' goal-bound shot, and Martinelli mishit the rebound wide of the far post.
Oleksandr Zinchenko also came close to scoring on his debut when Jesus and Granit Xhaka switched the ball from right to left, giving the full-back a shooting opportunity, but Vicente Guaita did well to save his deflected shot. Despite seeing that glorious early chance go begging, we continued to press effort.
However, the Ukrainian would significantly contribute to the opening goal on minute 19, as we were rewarded for our pressure. The opening goal of the Premier League season was scored by Martinelli, who nodded past Guaita from close range after Saka floated a corner to the back post and an unnoticed Zinchenko headed the ball back across the box.
We remained in control for the duration of the first half without creating many chances, but the same could be said of the visitors who needed 41 minutes to create even one good chance, and when they did, Aaron Ramsdale had to be at the top of his game to stop it.
Similar to how we scored our first goal, Joachim Andersen met Eze's free-kick, allowing Edouard to dive for it, but our goalkeeper made an instinctive save to keep it out. Just before halftime, a combination of sliding blocks by William Saliba and Xhaka managed to keep Eduoard from tying the score.
But the momentum kept shifting, and five minutes after the break, Wilfried Zaha slipped in Eze one-on-one, forcing Ramsdale to perform at his peak once more. But the shot-stopper stayed big and made a great block, and an Eagles corner that caused chaos in our box on the hour demanded Ramsdale's sliced clearance.
