It's thought that the shooter was a former pupil at the institution.
Three 9-year-old students and three staff members were shot and killed by a heavily armed assailant who invaded a Christian school in Nashville on Monday morning, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. The attacker was then shot and killed by police.

John Drake, the Nashville police chief, indicated at a press conference that the person was "at one point a student" at the institution, though it was not clear when.
According to its website, the Covenant School was established in 2001 and currently enrols roughly 200 preschool through sixth grade pupils.
Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, and William Kinney, all 9 years old; Cynthia Peak, 61, a substitute teacher; Mike Hill, 61, a janitor; and Katherine Koonce, 60, were the other four victims, according to the police. The website for the school states that Dr. Koonce served as its principal.
According to Chief Drake, the attacker entered the building through a side door while brandishing two assault-style firearms and a handgun before moving from the first floor to the second
to fire.
According to Chief Drake, when the police arrived, they heard gunfire coming from the second floor. Police claim that when they arrived, they witnessed the attacker shooting. According to the authorities, two cops fired first, killing the shooter.
After the attack, there was some ambiguity regarding the attacker's gender identity. Audrey Hale, who the chief claimed identified as transgender, was the shooter, according to Chief Drake. The gunman, who appeared to identify as male in recent months according to a social media post and a LinkedIn profile, was referred to by authorities as "she" and "her" in their statements.
According to Chief Drake, the attacker had comprehensive maps of the school, and the police were looking over what he called a manifesto and other writing. Researchers had

Speaking about the tragic massacre, President Biden referred to the killings of six people—including the three elementary school children—as "sick" and urged Congress to take further action to adopt gun-control legislation.
According to Chief Drake, at least two of the guns used in the attack looked to have been legally purchased in the Nashville region.
