 Born in New Jersey in 1943, Wright had a profession as a toddler actor in TV and radio commercials and performed on Broadway in the 1954 musical Fanny. He also appeared. on The Ed Sullivan Show. After playing in the high school band, Wright decided that music was "too unstable" to practice professionally and instead trained as a doctor in the United States and West Germany. In Europe, he gave up medicinal drugs to pursue track and in 1967 became the lead singer of the British blues rock organization Spooky Tooth earlier than embarking on a solo profession in 1970. That same year, Wright performed keyboards on Harrison's 1970 album All Things Must.
