Basketball legend and 10-time NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony announces his retirement.

After 19 NBA seasons, Carmelo Anthony has declared his retirement from the game

The NBA's all-time leading scorer, Carmelo Anthony, has announced his retirement from basketball at 38.

The third overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft, Anthony had a remarkable 19-year career that featured 10 NBA All-Star games, six All-NBA selections, a scoring championship, and a spot on the NBA's 75th-anniversary squad.

He spent a large portion of his NBA career as one of the most feared and lucrative players because of his ability to score the basketball, and his 28,289 career points place him tenth on the all-time scoring list.

Prior to playing in the NBA with the Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers, and Los Angeles Lakers, Anthony memorably guided Syracuse to its first national men's basketball championship as a freshman.

Anthony achieved three Olympic gold medals as a part of Team USA in Rio in 2016, London in 2012, and Beijing in 2008, and one bronze in Athens in 2004.

Anthony said in his retirement video, "I recall the days when I had nothing, only a ball on the court and hope of something bigger. "But basketball was my outlet, my motivation was great, and so were my communities, the cities I proudly represented, and the supporters who helped me along the way.

"I will always be grateful to those people and locations for giving me the opportunity to become Carmelo Anthony.  But now is the time for me to say goodbye, both to the NBA and to the pitch where I built my name, as well as to the sport that gave me meaning and pride. What the future has in store for me excites me.

With the Nuggets, Anthony started his career and immediately established himself as one of the top players in the league.

In 2009, he guided Denver to its first appearance in the Western Conference Finals since 1985, where they lost to the eventual champion Los Angeles Lakers.

He was traded to the New York Knicks during the 2010–11 season, although during his time at Madison Square Garden, he never once made it past the first round of the playoffs.

With a 62-point effort in the Garden over the Charlotte Bobcats in January 2014, Anthony set both a career-high and a Knicks franchise record

He was moved to the Rockets in 2018 after first going to the Thunder in 2017, where he played for a short while before being barred from the team.

He signed a contract with the Trail Blazers in November 2019, more than a year after his last NBA game, and experienced something of a comeback, helping the team advance to the playoffs while on the NBA bubble.

After spending two seasons in Portland, where he entered the top ten of the NBA's all-time scoring list, Anthony signed with the Los Angeles Lakers for the 2021–2022 season, which would be his final one as an active player. The Lakers finished 11th in the Western Conference.

LeBron James, who was selected first overall in the same recruiting class, remarked on an Instagram story, "You're such a legend and beyond my brother,"

Congratulations on an incredible journey.

Carmelo Anthony is one of the NBA's all-time greatest players and ambassadors, according to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver in a tweet. He has had a great 19-year career, and we wish him luck in getting into the Hall of Fame.

Following basketball

Anthony started a winemaking business during his time in the NBA and aspires to leave a lasting legacy that extends beyond the basketball floor.

But he was lonely when he first began to enjoy alcohol.

Regarding his early years in the NBA, he said in 2022 that "there was no wine in the NBA." I had been on a voyage since [2005] without even realizing it was a wine adventure.

"I was drinking wine, going to a restaurant, sitting at the bar, and asking for a glass of wine with [teammates] just looking at me like, 'Man, what is he doing?'"

Most guys would laugh and warn Anthony that it wasn't a good habit, Anthony recounted.

During road trips to Sacramento, California, where he would visit wine clubs selling varietals from the surrounding Napa Valley and other regions of the world, he started to comprehend the worth and quality of wines.

Anthony's enthusiasm for wine increased after he was transferred from the Nuggets to the Knicks in 2011.

It simply introduced me to a whole new world of wine enthusiasts, different wines, discussions, and palates. And after that, I was certain that this was the genre I wanted to work in.

Anthony claimed that the league's other players gradually began to appreciate Burgundy, Bordeaux, and Beaujolais.
