The first method
Pratt's knot
1Start with your tie from the inside out. The wide end of the tie should remain on the right and the thin end on the left
2Pass the wide end under the thin end, so that they intersect
3Wrap the wide end over the knot around the neck
4Pull the wide end under the knot all the way around the neck
5Wrap the wide end over the thin end from left to right
6Pull the wide end up through the knot
7Wrap the wide end down all the way through the knot in the front
8Form the knot into a triangle and pull on the thin end to secure the tie along the collar
The second method
Traditional Windsor knot
1Choose the traditional Windsor knot for its formality rather than the half Windsor knot
2Place the tie around your neck. One end of the wider bond should be longer than the other. Make sure the wider end is on your right and try to keep it about a foot (30 cm) lower than the thinner end on your left
3Pass the wide end over the thin end, so that they intersect
4Twist the tie up through the knot
5Roll the bond back down. The wide end should stay to the left of the thin end
6Pull the wide end under the thin end and then to the right
7Pull the wide end through the knot, this time to the right. Now, the wide end should be inside out
8Pass the wide end over the thin end again, from right to left
9Twist the wide end under the knot
10Fold the wide end through the knot and into the tie knot in front of the tie
11Tighten the bond within the triangle using both hands. Slowly tighten the narrow end to bring the tie closer to the neck
Moving the necklace a few centimeters below the collar will make it look more modern and elegant. On formal occasions, it is known that the knot should be close to the neckline
