Top tips for staying healthy this Spring

The public health team at Somerset County Council is offering some top advice for being healthy this spring as the weather improves and COVID restrictions give way to guidance:

Take in a lot of fresh air:

Meeting together outside or making sure there is enough of fresh air circulation if you must meet indoors is one of the best strategies to help stop the spread of Covid-19 and other contagious infections.

It gets easier to meet folks outside as the weather gets better. It makes sense to take quick measures to increase ventilation indoors when you observe visitors from outside, including opening doors and windows to allow in fresh air. In comparison to areas with no fresh air, opening windows on a daily basis for just 10 minutes, or in little amounts continually, can nevertheless significantly lower the danger of Covid-19 becoming airborne.

Wash your hands often.

Regular hand washing can help you and your loved ones stay healthy by preventing the transmission of respiratory and diarrheal illnesses.

If you are out and about and do not have access to a sink, you should wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If not, you should use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. It's particularly crucial while making food, right after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing, or any other situation where you run the risk of picking up and spreading germs.

Recognize stress and anxiety

Please keep in mind that while some people would be happy to see the Covid limitations cease, others might experience substantial stress and anxiety. It's critical to recognise these emotions and to constantly remind one another that maintaining good health involves both your body and mind.

Receive a Covid shot and booster.

We have all learned about the dangers of Covid-19 over the past two years, including the increased possibility of contracting the virus again and developing long-covid. Being vaccinated is our best line of defense against developing a dangerous Covid-19 infection. You still have time to obtain your first, second, or booster shot, and we strongly advise everyone who is qualified to get their fourth booster shot when it becomes available in the spring.

These small deeds make a big difference when it comes to assisting in the protection of our friends, family, and local communities in Somerset. They have very little effect on our ability to get out and enjoy our daily lives.
